Asking awkward questions can be dangerous. It has gotten me into trouble my entire life.
My latest question is this: Why would a pro-life organization help defeat a bill “to strengthen protections for unborn children” in my state?
It sounds like a Babylon Bee headline: “Pro-Life Organization Aborts Bill to Abolish Abortion.”
Except this one is real.
Before trusting a “pro-life” organization or voter guide, Christians should ask: Is this organization “pro-life” enough to be consistent with my biblical values?

A Simple Test of “pro-life” organizations, news, candidates, or policy

1. Do they oppose legal accountability for mothers who choose murder through abortion?
2. Do they prioritize political strategy over biblical principle?
3. Do they emphasize education while minimizing deterrence and justice?
4. Do they support or oppose equal protection for unborn children?
   This was news to me this year, but many national pro-life groups now oppose holding women legally accountable for abortion, often in the name of timing, strategy, compassion, or incremental change. But when have followers of Jesus ever been called to first ask what the culture is ready for?
   Wilberforce would still be waiting.
   The lost world is dead in sin, and we all need a Savior. Praise God, there is forgiveness for the repentant. His name is Jesus, soon to be physically reigning King of Kings after He defeats His enemies and invites the birds to feast on their corpses. The Bride of Christ is called to obey Him, trust His Word, and defend the innocent without compromise. Let’s go with God, who has kept all His promises without fail.
   Some say, “We don’t want to criminalize women.” But we already hold people accountable when they murder born children. Are preborn children different in the eyes of God? We hold fathers accountable when they kill their unborn children through abortion pills. Please show me the verse that says mothers are exempt from personal responsibility.
   Others say education is the answer because women think the baby is only a clump of cells. But it is 2026 and abortion is being celebrated. Ultrasounds exist. Google exists. And, more importantly, God’s moral law is written on the hearts of all people (Romans 2). Law teaches. Law deters. Without legal consequences, abortion remains terrifyingly easy.
   My child once said, “Mom, if bad guys don’t get in trouble for stealing cars, they’re going to keep stealing cars.”
   Exactly. A child can understand what many adults refuse to acknowledge. See any five-year-olds working in Walmart in the USA, thank righteous laws that have changed the world.
   Then comes the prolife argument that women are victims of abortion and that holding them accountable would be unloving. Enabling murder without consequence and daring to call it compassion is not biblical wisdom. Innocent blood cries out to God from Genesis to Revelation. The child in the womb is God’s image-bearer, knit together by Him.
   Would the dead preborn children agree that their killers were the victims?
   Would God?
   Some pro-life organizations have twisted Equal Protection laws to make it sound as if every post-abortive mother from the past could be prosecuted. That is not how American law works. Equal protection bills are about going forward. They are about deterrence. They are about saying clearly: preborn children deserve the same protection as born people.
   We already protect eagle eggs and property.
   Why not children made in the image of God?
   Does Jesus still weep? Would we weep at the sight of 1,125,930 white crosses commemorating last year’s aborted dead?
   Do walls still fall when God’s people obey Him, even when His strategy looks foolish to the world?
   Follower of Jesus, what if this is the greatest faith test of our generation? Will we trust in the Lord with all our hearts, lean not on our own understanding, acknowledge Him in all our ways, and let Him direct our paths? Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2

God has been convicting me of my blind trust in these well-intentioned and admirable prolife organizations. Is Spirit-breathing holy revival painful refiner’s fire? May He lead obedient followers within the pro-life movement to repent, reevaluate, and courageously stand to prioritize children in the womb over women’s feelings or comforts.
Beloved child of the King, let’s look to Jesus. Pray that the Holy Spirit opens His living and active Word to all of us. Read Jesus’ warnings to the churches in Revelation. Bask in Psalm 119 and 139. Learn from disastrous examples of “politically savvy” compromise in the Old Testament. Notice how often the Psalms speak of defending the weak, the poor, and the vulnerable.
Let us pray for the refiner’s fire of revival in all citizens of heaven, stewards of this great nation, and faithful believers within pro-life organizations.
Ask God hard questions.
Ask others awkward questions too.
Main point: If unborn children are image-bearers of God, Christians should seek equal legal protection for them, follow biblical principles rather than cultural strategy, and support laws that teach and deter the taking of innocent human life.
